The Sun appears to have quashed a report released by The Times on Monday suggesting that the tabloid would be removing Page 3 by the end of this week.

In a move contrary to most media coverage of the issue, The Times’ sister paper released this quote in Thursday’s edition underneath a photograph of a topless model on the controversial page:

“Further to recent reports in all other media outlets, we would like to clarify that this is Page 3 and that this is a picture of Nicole, 22…”

Under the heading ‘clarifications and corrections’, Murdoch’s paper ‘apologised’ to journalists who had covered the issue.

The ‘No More Page 3’ campaign tweeted the newspaper to thank them for the recent publicity attracted by The Sun’s proposed axing:

So it seems the fight might be back on. Thanks to @TheSunNewspaper for all the publicity they’ve given the campaign. See you tomorrow xxx

Their decision to keep the page has caused widespread controversy.
