Budding journalists will be given the chance to quiz industry professionals about their trade at a panel event organised by the Employability and Careers Centre next Thursday.
The event, adopting the form of a panel discussion, will showcase the knowledge of four multimedia specialists with decades of experience.
Course director Professor Jonathan Baker will be accompanied by Guardian sub-editor Paul Anderson, and former pan-Arab newspaper editor Fatima Issawi, both of which have been appointed as lecturers on the new BA Journalism degree. Joining them is organiser Karen Gooch, Faculty Placements Manager at Essex, who was once a Parliamentary reporter for Press Association and Senior Radio Producer at the BBC.
The event is open to all students and intends to equip those pondering a career in the competitive craft with an exclusive insight into daily life as a broadcast, print and online journalist.
Those who attend will also catch a sneak preview of the new BA Journalism course. The undergraduate degree, which will drive the Department of Literature, Film and Theatre Studies to change its name, is set to inaugurate its first intake of students next October.
Earlier this year, former BBC News editor Professor Baker released a short video that envisions the future of journalism at Essex:
If you are interested, book yourself in using the Careerhub section of the Employability and Careers website. The event will take place on Thursday 12 February, from 5-6pm in LTB4.
